Thursday, June 27, 2013
The defending state legion baseball champions, the Brookings Bandits took care of business on their home field last night and defeated Post 8 by scores of 16-6 and 8-5. In game one, pitching was very shaky for Post 8. Coach Matt Sisk was forced to dig into his bullpen early on when Graham Protexter gave up four earned in the first two innings of play.

Brookings would go on to score 11 runs in the first four innings of play to take a commanding 11-3 lead. Post 8 would receive contributions from Alex Gray, who scored two runs, and Cash Anderson who drove home two. The Bandits just had to much offense throughout game one. Every batter for Brookings at least scored a run. Post 8 fell victim to the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth when the score hit 16-6.

In game two, a much improved game from the Post 8 legion baseball team as they battled right down to the final inning but came up short 8-5 to the Bandits.

Brookings took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of play thanks to a single by Thomas McMacken. Later in the top of the second Austin Wagner and Graham Protexter scored on consecutive wild pitches to tie the game. The Bandits would later break that tie in the bottom of the second after Trevor Puetz singled to drive in Mack Burns. The Bandits led 3-2. Brookings would cushion their lead to 6-2 in the third inning after three more runners touched home plate. Post 8 once again trimmed the deficit as Austin Wagner was able to drive home Cash Anderson courtesy of a sacrifice fly. Blake Dean would come home to score right after thanks to a single from Carson Eisenbeisz as Post 8 only trailed 6-4. Brookings matched Post 8 once again as two more scored in the bottom of the fourth innings to lead 8-4 and that proved to be all Brookings needed. Ryan Goodwin in came across home plate in the top of the seventh and Post 8 dropped game two 8-5.

Post 8 reached the midway point of their season last night after dropping both games of the doubleheader to Brookings. Post 8 sits 10-13-1 overall on the year. According to Matt Sisk he feels that their has been more positives then negatives in the first half of this season.
