POST 8 BASEBALL HEAD COACH JOB DESCRIPTION

Pierre Post 8 Baseball’s mission is to provide an opportunity for players aged 13-18 to develop baseball skills and achieve team success in an environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship and respect.

Job Summary:

The Pierre Post 8 Legion Head Coach is responsible for leading and organizing all teams (13, 14, 15/16, Jr. Legion & Legion) in the program. The Head Coach ensures that the teams achieve success by monitoring their training, teaching effective baseball techniques, creating game plans, organizing and running practices, and deciding lineups. This position is also in charge of coordinating with the Head of Baseball Operations, Board Members and parents regarding progress and concerns. The coach must also uphold the honor and dignity of the program. In all personal contact with athletes, umpires, officials, administrators, state and national organizations, the media and the public, the coach shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  Conduct practice sessions prior to and during the playing season. Practices will provide the appropriate conditioning, game simulation and drills to improve knowledge and skill level.

       Organize coaching, training, and game schedules.

      Develop an off-season conditioning and practice program that will enhance the progress of the players.

     Handle and solve internal conflicts and issues while creating and implementing disciplinary and safety rules for the team.

Schedule all Legion and Jr. Legion games.

  Commitment to player development to ensure high numbers of player participation and a competitive program.

       Manage and maintain good relationships with the players, parents, and the Post 8 Baseball Board.

       Oversee field care and maintenance.

       Ensure the proper use, care, cleaning and maintenance of all Post 8 Baseball facilities and equipment.

       Adhere to all rules, regulations and policies as mandated by the American Legion Association

       Provide an atmosphere of good sportsmanship and respect.

     Recruit coaches for the program and make recommendations on coaching positions to the Post 8 Baseball Board.

       Provide guidance to all other coaches in the program.

Skills:

          Ability to manage and lead young athletes while promoting teamwork and cooperation.

          Ability to generate effective game strategies.

          Attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

          Have good multitasking and decision-making skills.

          Must be patient and highly motivated.

Qualifications:

         5 years of experience as a baseball coach/player at the high school/Legion or college level is preferred.

            Completion of any level of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) or USA Baseball Coaches Certification Program certifications is preferred. 

          In-depth experience or knowledge of American Legion Baseball rules, regulations and strategies.

         Ability to effectively communicate with and serve all groups within Post 8 Baseball including coaches, board, parents, and players.

          Must present a professional image.

          Must pass all potential background checks.

          Must have valid driver’s license and willing to obtain CDL if needed.

          Must be able to maintain confidential information.

          Obtain certification in CPR and first aid training to respond to a participant's injuries.

POST 8 BASEBALL – Bus Driver

 

Are you looking for a part-time job this summer?  Do you like to watch baseball?  The Pierre Post 8 Board has the perfect job for you as a bus driver for the upcoming 2024 baseball season. 

Pierre Post 8 Baseball’s mission is to provide an opportunity for players aged 13-18 to develop baseball skills and achieve team success in an environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship and respect.

Job Summary:

The bus driver position will consist of driving the Post 8 bus (30 passenger bus) during the week for out-of-town games for the following age groups:  13, 14, 15/16, Jr. Legion and Legion.  The driver will work with Post 8 Head of Baseball Operations for traveling schedule.  Driving the bus may consist of long days and returning back to Pierre late in the evening.

In all personal contact with athletes, coaches, parents, and the public, the driver shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct. Applicants will undergo a background check and will be required to complete Safe Training. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

          Safely driving the baseball teams to out of town games.

          Communicate with the Head of Baseball Operations on changes to schedule or unexpected delays or changes.   

          In collaboration with the baseball coaches, maintain an orderly bus. 

          Provide an atmosphere of good sportsmanship and respect.

          Notify the Head of Baseball Operations of any potential automative concerns with the bus. 

Skills:

          Safe driving.

          Automative knowledge.

          Attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

          Have good decision-making skills.

          Must be patient.

Qualifications:

          Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class B with passenger endorsement

          Five years of experience driving a bus is preferred.

          Must be professional and responsible.

          Must pass all potential background checks.

          Must be able to maintain confidential information.

          Obtain certification in CPR and first aid training.

Location is Pierre with travel to communities across South Dakota.  There are no overnight stays. 

Pay:  $18 per hour which includes the time from when the bus leaves until its return home.
