Iverson Hired as New Post 8 Manager

Wednesday, January 24, 2024

Pierre, SD -- Pierre Post 8 proudly announces the appointment of River Iverson as the Head Coach of the Senior Legion baseball team. A former player in the program, Iverson transitioned to coaching in 2021 upon graduating and finishing his final year playing with the team in 2020. Iverson coached the 15/16's team from 2021-2022 and then was the assistant coach for the Senior Legion team in 2023.

"I'm thankful for the opportunity," Iverson says. "I coached this team last year and am looking forward to getting the program going. I've been coaching a handful of the players the last three years and I already know what we're working with in certain areas, what our strengths are and what we need to work on."

Iverson's history with Pierre Post 8 as a player and his recent coaching tenure make him the ideal candidate to guide the team to success. The organization is confident that Iverson's familiarity with the program will contribute significantly to the development of young athletes.

“The Post 8 Program looks forward to the 2024 Season under the direction of River,” Tyson Lindekugel, Post 8 Board President Says. “River has been around baseball and Post 8 for many years, and we look forward to watching him lead the Post 8 program.”

Pierre Post 8 looks forward to a successful year under Coach Iverson's leadership and is excited to witness the positive impact he will bring to the Pierre Post 8 program.

2020 Parents Welcome Letter to Post 8 Baseball

Friday, March 6, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Post 8 Baseball!  Your child is joining an outstanding program that has seen state championship teams at both the Legion and Teener level in just the past few years.  We have been blessed with dedicated coaches and a community of supportive parents!  The purpose of this letter is to welcome you and your family to our program as well as provide some important information as you prepare for your first year with Post 8.  There is a lot of information, so I apologize in advance for the length but want to make sure that we are successfully communicating with all of you.

A.  Social Media/Electronic Communication – Below are great places to stay apprised of everything Post 8!

1 -  Post 8 Website – http://www.post8baseball.com/

2 - Post 8 Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/Pierre-Post-8-Baseball-1440387532677785/

3 -   Emails – Be sure that Coach White has your email address and let him know if you are not receiving emails.

B.  Fund Raising Events – The Post 8 Board takes pride in the efforts we have made to keep the costs of playing baseball reasonable.  We will employ between 10-12 coaches as well as provide transportation to all out of town games during the week.  These costs are significant, so we work hard to find larger fundraising activities to support our athletes.  These are only successful with the help from our parents and players.  Below are a couple upcoming events for which we will need assistance.

1 -   Pancake Feeds – Beginning in November we serve five pancake breakfasts per year at the Legion Cabin.  Our last one for this year is scheduled for Saturday, March 21st.  There will be a Sign-Up Genius sent out for volunteers.

2 -   Roast Beef Feed – Monday, May 11th at the Legion Cabin.  Each player will be asked to bring a different type of dish for this event.

C.  Raffle Tickets

1 -   This is the biggest requirement we make of our athletes! Again, to limit the financial burden to our families we have given the players raffle tickets to sell instead of tying the entire cost into a registration fee.

2 -   Raffle ticket turn in will be Tuesday, May 19th at Hyde Stadium from 5:30 to 7:30. Players are not allowed to compete in games until all tickets are sold and the money turned in.

D.   Season Passes – Family season passes can be purchased for $50 which gives you entry to all home Post 8 baseball games except for tournaments.

E.   Hitting League – Will begin on March 30th/31st and run Mondays and Tuesdays for four weeks (through April 21st) Coaches will work with the athletes in the basement of the Reinke-Gray Wealth Management Building which is located at 1714 Lincoln Avenue.  Times and groups will be forthcoming, and we strongly encourage our players to sign up for this to get a head start on the skills necessary to be an effective hitter!

F.    Parent Meeting – This meeting will be Tuesday, April 14th at the Chamber of Commerce.  Parents of 13/14’s will meet at 7:00 and 15/16, Jr. Legion, and Legion parents will meet at 7:45.

G.    Bussing – Post 8 will provide transportation to all out of town games during the week.  Transportation for all weekend games and tournaments must be provided by the parents.

H.    Parent Involvement – Parent volunteers are ESSENTIAL to our program.  Each team will be looking for a team parent as well as volunteers to assist with games to work the Kelley Field concession stand, run Game Changer, work the gate, prepping the field, selling 50-50 tickets, and announcing.

I.    Player Expectations – All players, coaches, and fans are expected to conduct themselves with dignity and respect!

J.    Practices will begin on May 4th for all teams from U13 thru Junior Legion!!!

We look forward to having you and your child be a part of Post 8 Baseball!  Thank you for parenting and for your support of our program.

Sincerely,

Post 8 Board of Directors
