Post 8 sweeps doubleheader vs Huron by Dan Hoblick KCCR Radio

Post 8 swept a doubleheader vs Huron last night at Hyde Stadium by scores of 9-1 and 11-10.

In game one, Willie Welch pitched his third consecutive complete game, giving up one earned and striking out six.

According to Post 8 baseball coach Matt Sisk, with Welch's dominance in game one it provided confidence for the rest of the team.

 

The score remained 1-1 for a majority of the baseball game until the fifth inning when Gage Curtis and Alex Gray would triple. Gray and Curtis would both come home to score. Austin Wagner would score the third run of the fifth inning when Cash Anderson would double for one of his three hits in game one. Post 8 would lead 4-1 after five innings of play.

 

In the next inning Post 8 used a furious offensive surge which started with a two run single from Gage Curtis. A few batters later with the bases loaded, Cash Anderson ripped a monster double to the gap, clearing the bases. Post 8 would sit down Huron in order in the top of the seventh to take game one. Cash Anderson finished 3/4 on the night with four RBI's. Gage Curtis was right behind Anderson on the stat sheet finishing 2/3 and two RBI's. Coach Matt Sisk mentioned after last night's game that his team finally produced the hits that he has wanted in the last few weeks of the season.

 

Game two of the doubleheader proved to be a thrilling game for both teams. Huron jumped out early on Post 8. Gage Curtis got the start and gave up three earned runs but left in the first inning due to injury.

Huron would have the lead until the bottom of the fourth inning. Alec Norwick led off with a triple and would later score one of his four runs on the night. Post 8 would go on to score five runs and take a 7-6 lead.

Huron would have answer for the first time in game two and they responded by scoring three run in the top of the fifth to lead 9-7.

Huron would plate another run in the top of the seventh.

 

Facing a 10-7 deficit in the bottom of the seventh, Alec Norwick and Ryan Goodwin led off the inning with back to back singles. They would come home after a monster shot by Blake Dean hit the left wall. Dean would later score to tie the game after a triple by Austin Wagner. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Cash Anderson drove in his only run of the game with a walk off double as Post 8 dug deep and pulled off the victory in thrilling fashion.

 

Post 8 will resume play on Monday when they face Spearfish for the second time this season at Hyde Stadium. This contest will be a single 9 inning game. You can listen to coverage on 1240 AM Today's KCCR and todayskccr.com starting at 5:45PM.
